Faber Castell

 Faber Castell

As you may or may not be able to tell from the name, Faber Castell is a German company, established in 1761, fair to say that these guys know a thing or two about pencils. As with most things coming out of Germany for the world market, quality control and craftsmanship are of the highest standard and their current day coloured pencils are absolutely no exception.

Although I have a soft spot for Derwent Pencil Company and I explain my reasons here, there is no taking away from the fact that the coloured pencils produced by Faber Castell are outstanding in many aspects.

As with most pencil companies, they produce a three tiered system of pencils, artist grade, beginners and a children's range, but as well as coloured pencils, Faber Castell also produce high quality graphite pencils, pastels, erasers, sharpeners and many more fine art craft tools. But what makes a Faber Castell coloured pencil so high quality.

The Faber Castell range for children is very vividly marked and easily identifiable. All products are packaged in bright red boxes with brightly coloured child like drawings depicted. Of course I will be adding an in-depth review of these coloured pencils later in the blog and on my Youtube Channel dedicated to run alongside this blog.

Next in the range of products available from Faber Castell are their Creative Studio line, which in my opinion would be aimed at amateur artists, students on a budget. This range is packed with quality products, but available at a more sustainable price bracket. As with the children's range, the Creative Studio range from Faber Castell are identifiable via their royal blue packaging, be it tins or boxes. In the Creative Studio range there are, Art Grip Coloured Pencils, Art Grip Aquarelle Watercolour Pencils, Oil and Soft Pastels and a Graphite range. I will of course go more in-depth with regards to the art grip feature of these pencils in my review.

Finally, Faber Castells artist range, referred to as their Art & Graphic range are packaged in an English Racing Car Green colour. Although the items are the same in this range to the Creative Studio range, the quality is a significant jump up as is the price bracket. This range consists of Polychromous Coloured Pencils, Albrecht Durer Watercolour Pencils, Polychromous Pastels, Pitt Pastel Pencils, Graphite, Pitt Monochrome Charcoal and many other items.

 Faber Castell Art & Graphic

I am looking forward to reviewing many products from Faber Castell, I have created quite a few art pieces with their products and can testify to the high quality Faber Castell insist upon.
